ORSKA
Old plastic, New Stone

Plastic is one of the world's most popular and yet most problematic materials. Too often it is treated as a disposable material and ends its short life in the depths of the seas and oceans, where it threatens not only wildlife, but also humans. The artistic jewelry in the New Stone collection was born out of a reflection on the kind of Planet we want to leave to our successors. Caring for the future of the Earth, the production of new materials can be replaced by processing what is already available. What do we have in excess? The answer is simple: plastic waste. That is why, together with a team of enthusiasts at Boomplastic, we have developed a process to reincarnate plastic, proving that when recycled and framed into jewelry forms, it can become an object of desire. The silver and gold-plated jewelry is not only an ornament, but also a symbol of environmental responsibility.

Stone of the future

At the heart of the New Stone collection is the stone of the future, which is an artistic interpretation of post-industrial plastic. The black solid was decorated with silver or brass filings from the ORSKA workshop, a by-product of the metalworking and jewelry-making process. The gem with its irregular structure and rough surface resembles a natural rock. It is light and durable, so it does not weigh down the jewelry. The handmade pieces bear the inscription "made by HOMO SAPIENS", which reminds us that our works are also our responsibility.

How was the stone of the future created?

Unneeded post-industrial plastic was ground and processed into small pieces along with silver or brass filings at the Boomplastic workshop. The material is redesigned each time, giving each piece a unique character. The finished blocks of plastic were cut into shapes designed by designer Anna Orska, known for her upcycling works. They were then framed in silver or gold-plated frames at the ORSKA studio. Cast in metal, the designs create irregular, flowing shapes. Their forms resemble the water of the seas and oceans, which all too often become the final destination of plastic waste.
