The New Stone artistic jewelry collection was born out of a reflection on the state in which we want to leave the planet to our successors. For the sake of the Earth's future, the production of the new can be replaced by processing what is already available. Because what do we have in excess? The answer is simple: waste. So if we want to make a real difference, we should focus our attention on seemingly inconspicuous raw materials. In line with this idea, the synthetic New Stone gem was created. Although small in size, it can inspire others to create boldly. Post-industrial plastic along with silver filings (leftovers from metal processing at ORSKA) was subjected to experimental processing, resulting in a distinctive dark stone with shiny particles. All this to give this material a unique second life.

In the New Stone jewelry collection, ORSKA is looking for a solution to the overproduction of disposable plastics and wants to inspire others to do the same. That is why we have created irregular necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings, some of which have been adorned with a synthetic gem called New Stone. The stone was created from recycled plastic, in collaboration with the team of enthusiasts at Boomplastic. We turned the fine shavings of this material, after heat treatment and silver setting, from an unwanted discovery by anthropologists of the future, into a jewelry heirloom that can be passed onto future generations.

When creating jewelry from the New Stone collection, we wanted to draw attention to the global problem of the overproduction of plastic, which is very often used just once. Abandoned by humans, it rests in landfills for hundreds more years, acting as a destructive force for nature. The black stone was created from post-industrial plastic. In addition, it was enriched with brass and silver filings that remained in our workshop after metal processing. The New Stone collection reminds us to be responsible for our creations and inspires us to seek more environmentally friendly solutions.

The ring was handmade in the ORSKA workshop. The decorative element of the ring is a dark stone with metal flakes. It was created from post-industrial plastic intended for recycling. The narrow ring was made of silver. The cast-metal technique gave it a gently undulating texture. The interesting form of the ring evokes associations with the water of the seas and oceans, into which unwanted plastic all too often finds its way. New Stone - How was it created?

Cleaned and segregated post-industrial plastic was ground into fine chips and heat-treated to form stone blocks. It was from these that the black New Stone stones were cut in shapes designed by ORSKA. Inside the stone, tiny metal filings were additionally embedded, which add to the shine. The handcrafted workmanship means that the stones may vary slightly each time, which emphasizes the individual character of the jewelry from the New Stone collection.

Old Plastic, New Stone - the stone of the future in silver and gold jewelry

Our ancestors left behind breathtaking stone carvings, wall paintings and monumental buildings. And what will we leave behind for the anthropologists of the future? Do we want to leave them mountains made of plastic? Or will we be able to transform them into something more valuable? In the New Stone jewelry collection, ORSKA is looking for a solution to the overproduction of disposable plastics and wants to inspire others to do the same. That is why we have created irregular necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings, some of which have been adorned with a synthetic gem called New Stone. The stone was created from recycled plastic, in collaboration with the team of enthusiasts at Boomplastic. We turned the fine shavings of this material, after heat treatment and silver setting, from an unwanted discovery by anthropologists of the future, into a jewelry heirloom that can be passed onto future generations.
