ORSKA handcrafted jewelry designed by Anna Orska, Lodz Design Festival exhibition

Łódź Design Festival is an annual celebration of good design in Poland. This year, the oldest and most prestigious event of this type in Poland was held under the word "BETTER". As part of the festival, a cross-sectional exhibition of works by Anna Orska was organized, which dealt with the subject of responsible design. The opening of the exhibition took place on September 16, 2021 at the Puro hotel in Łódź.

"ORSKA

Producing new things is not and will never be fully beneficial for our planet. But it cannot be stopped and will never go away. Due to the dominating “buy-use-throw away” model, companies producing clothes and accessories are among those who have the most responsibility on their backs. If we want to help the planet this ill-considered consumption model has to change. Anna Orska, jewelry designer and pioneer of upcycling in the Polish jewelry industry, used unusual components before they became fashionable. She made jewelry from lead soldiers, old coins, watch mechanisms, tableware, electronic waste, and car parts, trying to give them a second life and a noble form of jewelry.

"ORSKA

Excessive consumption and reckless buying do not fit into the DNA of the ORSKA brand, which the designer founded 11 years ago. ORSKA does not follow fashion and temporary trends, but focuses on creating unique and timeless pieces. She is rebellious and uncompromising. She believes that the sum of small steps can bring a noticeable change, therefore she is not afraid to experiment and look for new, more responsible solutions.

The “New Aesthetics” project is an attempt to redefine aesthetics. It focuses not only on the form, but also on the material, creating process, and responsibility. It is an attempt to include conscious solutions into the design process. Finally, it is a set of important questions in a world threatened by an ecological crisis. Can a small change have a big impact? Should the designer take responsibility for what he or she has created? And last but not least, what will we leave behind? What will the future generations inherit from us? Anna Orska looks for answers in her own style. The exhibition presents collections from the last two years, which are the essence of personal research, responsibility, and commitment. A small step in the right direction won’t change everything right away. But it is an exciting beginning that can inspire others. We are all responsible. Each of us has an impact.
