Crafts of the World: Kembali Jewellery Collection

In Indonesian, “Kembali” means “return”. The name of the collection refers not only to the place where the jewellery sculptures were handcrafted, but also symbolises designer Anna Orska’s return to Bali. Eight years after her first visit, the artist returned to the Island of Flowers, discovering just how much had changed. It was the same place, but it was no longer the same. Many of the workshops that had existed during her first visit had closed down. In response to these changes, Orska created the Kembali jewellery collection, drawing on the enduring elements of Balinese culture: rituals, craftsmanship and nature.

Carved Snake Necklace

All the elements of the necklace were intricately carved by Balinese master craftsmen, who spent several hours creating them. At the ORSKA workshop, jewellers assembled the pieces into an elegant short chain and embellished them with gold-plated elements. The composition is finished with a convenient lobster clasp and the ORSKA logo. Particular attention is drawn to the precisely crafted snake head, featuring clearly defined intricate details. This short necklace is a perfect addition to both women’s and men’s wardrobes.

In Bali, the snake, known as “ode”, is a symbol of transformation for the better. It reminds us to let go of what no longer serves us, making room for something new. It represents wisdom, immortality, energy and vitality. The snake motif appears in numerous jewellery designs from the Kembali collection. It can be found both in the short hibiscus necklace and in the dangling lotus flower earrings.
