Amber - the gold of the Baltic, captured in cufflinks

Around 60 - 45 million years ago, the area around what is now the Baltic Sea was covered with coniferous forests, an integral part of which was the amber pine Pinus succinifera. Drops of resin flowing from these trees were exposed to many atmospheric conditions and slowly transformed into nuggets of the precious stone we know today as amber. Every piece of amber is unique: milky streaks are air bubbles trapped inside, a darker colour is the result of prolonged sun exposure, and some nuggets conceal inclusions - insects and plant fragments from millions of years ago. The amber in the Baltica collection comes from a family workshop on the Baltic coast, where Mr Piotr, together with his brother and daughters, has been hand-grinding and polishing Baltic gold for over 30 years.

Cufflinks with light and dark amber

These striking cufflinks were handcrafted in the ORSKA studio. Each pair consists of two contrasting forms set in satin-finish gold-plated brass. The first cufflink is square, with a dark, cognac-burgundy amber featuring characteristic inclusions set at its centre by our studio's jewellers. The second cufflink has a round form, adorned with a light, milky-cream amber with a smooth surface. Its warm, honey tone evokes the first rays of sunlight reflecting off the Baltic waters.

The amber in each pair of cufflinks varies slightly in shade, making every piece truly unique.
