Guatemala jewelry collection – in search of crafts from distant corners of the world
ORSKA has been traveling the paths of traditional crafts that still thrive in the most remote corners of the world. Each travel collection tells a story not only about a place but also about people and their skills passed down through generations. This time, designer Anna Orska visited Guatemala. The country opened doors to a world where time flows differently – where stones remember the touch of the chisel, and fabrics are woven from history. Jade, in Mayan culture, was more precious than gold and was treated as a talisman that protected life and gave strength. Durable, hand-polished stones meet soft, embracing fabric. Guatemalan materials have been handwoven for centuries in the town of Chichicastenango. The woven patterns record history, stories of rituals, and beliefs. These two worlds – of stone and fabric, spirituality and memory – are combined in the Guatemala jewelry collection. The heart of the collection is multicolored jade set in gold-plated and silver forms, creating a bold contrast with the vibrant woven bracelets and kimonos from the limited line.
Gold-plated earrings – cones from the Guatemala collection
The earrings are handmade from gold-plated brass in the form of small cone-shaped studs. The sides of the cones have a satin, matte finish, while the tops have a brushed, textured surface. This intriguing play of textures, characteristic of many designs in the Guatemala collection, subtly reflects light and brightens the face. They are also available in a silver color version.
Layered compositions – mix, experiment, and create
If you have multiple ear piercings, the Guatemala collection opens up a world of layered jewelry compositions. Gold-plated cone earrings are a perfect base for building interesting combinations – their small size does not overwhelm but creates a subtle accent that can be enhanced with other elements. Pair a few small geometric studs worn higher with large, dangling jade earrings – white or green. Don’t be afraid to mix different metals – combine gold-plated cones with silver earrings with black jade to create a composition that will catch many eyes. Layered combinations also work well for necklaces. You can wear several at different lengths or combine a long necklace with a jade pendant and round pins from the Guatemala collection pinned just at the collar of a shirt.
