Moroccan inspiration – created from metal

Traveling through workshops around the worldAnna Orska arrived in Morocco. Among the African colors, scents and many unique crafts, she discovered a workshop where one of the country's hallmarks is made. The metal lamps delighted the designer with their intricate, lacy structure and variety of shapes. From large lanterns adorning public buildings and temples, to delicate little lamps reminiscent of objects from the tales of one thousand and one nights, they are all handmade by master craftsmen specializing in this particular craft. From a sheet of metal, local artists cut and emboss pre-drawn shapes that, in keeping with Islamic tradition, do not contain depictions of people or animals, but rather multiplied, detailed vines, leaves and flowers. The resulting openwork phenomenally transmits beams of light, painting unforgettable compositions on the walls.

Handmade oxidized earrings with openwork structure

The long, hanging stud earrings were handmade from nickel silver in a Moroccan workshop. They were created by connecting two pieces using small links. Local masters cut out floral shapes and gave them a lace-like texture, then deepened the relief to highlight the ornamentation. According to Islamic tradition, the earrings are richly decorated with flowers, leaves or finely intertwined vines. To emphasize the play of light and shadow, the symmetrical earrings were additionally oxidized in the ORSKA workshop, and the brass settings were decorated with a sea blue stone. The studs and clasps were made of silver.
The earrings look like mashrabiya, or openwork covers for windows and balconies. This distinctive architectural element in Muslim countries helped cool the hot air while providing a shield for women, who, while remaining invisible, could follow the life going on in the street. Today, mashrabiya are used mainly as a decorative element, but they can also be found in mosques, where they separate the prayer section meant for women from the male gaze. When creating the earrings in the Morocco collection, ORSKA symbolically moved them from the realm of concealment into the realm of interest, turning elements that cover into a form that attracts attention. In this way, she made them artistically visible.

How to style long earrings

Long earrings can make an impression! With striking embellishments and shiny blue stones, they easily catch the eye and attract attention. The earrings look good solo, but will also work well in duos and larger sets. They like the company of delicate necklaces - the more impressive ones will overwhelm them. If you like large forms, combine them with the striking stiff bracelet, which you will also find in the Morocco collection. If you prefer more delicate designs, you can match them with the round pin, which will be a good alternative to a traditional necklace. Don't be afraid to mix the collections! Oxidized earrings look good with nature-inspired designs from the Bery collection.
