Nepal jewelry collection - ornament struck millimeter by millimeter
The heart of the Nepal jewelry collection is repoussé, a traditional technique of decorating metal, perfected for centuries by Newari craftsmen from the Kathmandu Valley. Repoussé begins with a thin sheet of metal. The craftsman works from the underside, striking contoured points with a hammer. Each strike shifts the sheet by a fraction of a millimeter, gradually revealing a raised relief on the other side. The piece is then turned over and chiseled from the front: lines are deepened, contours are accentuated, and the finest details are meticulously refined. Creating a single ornament requires hundreds, sometimes thousands, of strikes and many hours of focused work. In the Nepal collection, hand-repoussed vines, lotus leaves, and petals cover earrings, necklaces, wide bracelets, rings, signet rings, and brooches. The reliefs are complemented by natural labradorite and raw Himalayan crystals. This centuries-old technique from the Kathmandu Valley is given a contemporary twist on ORSKA jewelry.
Labradorite necklace with a graphite pendant from the Nepal collection
The main part of the necklace is a string of faceted labradorites, interwoven in several places with silver-plated and oxidized brass beads. At first glance, the stones appear subdued and gray. However, a touch of light is enough for blue, greenish, and gold reflections to appear on their surface, shimmering with every movement. The necklace is adorned with a triangular pendant with rounded edges, crafted from silver-plated and oxidized brass. The oxidation gives it a graphite hue, highlighting the plant ornaments. A plume of leaves adorns one side of the pendant, while a winding vine adorns the other. The extension is finished with a pendant featuring the ORSKA logo, allowing you to adjust the necklace's length.
Labradorite, a stone of perspective
Labradorite fascinates because it never reveals all its beauty at once. An optical phenomenon called labradorization makes each stone appear different depending on the point of view. According to one legend, labradorite's luminous reflections are fragments of the aurora borealis trapped in the rock. In the symbolism of stones, it is associated with intuition, inner transformation, and the courage needed to begin a new phase. In the Nepal collection, it has become a stone of perspective, reminding us that even a familiar situation can reveal new possibilities when viewed from a different angle. Paired with the rich texture of repoussé metal, it brings light, color, and movement to the jewelry, allowing each design to change with the wearer.
Cascading Necklace Combinations from the Nepal Collection
The Nepal Collection includes necklaces of various lengths, shapes, and finishes, making them easy to layer. Start with a short design with several pendants, worn close to the neck. Below, layer a string of labradorites with a round or triangular ornament, and for a special occasion, complete the ensemble with a longer necklace with a large, round pendant. Feel free to combine metal colors as well: a gold-plated element placed higher up will create a modern contrast with a graphite, oxidized medallion. Repeating floral reliefs and labradorites will provide cohesion throughout the composition.
