Moroccan jewelry of one thousand and one nights
Morocco is the next stop on Anna Orska's long travel itinerary. This time the designer decided to write the next chapter of her design story in Marrakech. In this colorful and energetic city, the artist was introduced to several traditional crafts that caught her attention. Ultimately, however, she decided to focus on metalwork and metal lanterns, which impress with their precision craftsmanship and incredible details. Under the watchful eye of local masters, she adapted this non-jewelry craft into jewelry forms. Anna Orska brought a touch of her original style to the rich Moroccan design. She prepared the elements, which are traditionally made of golden brass, in silver and nickel silver, additionally coating them with graphite oxidation, which enhances the embossed patterns. She contrasted the dark texture of the main elements with gold-plated details in the form of stone settings, decorative links or ornament edges.
Oval lace stud earrings
The magnificent earrings were handmade from nickel silver in a Moroccan workshop. The masters in Marrakech cut out the intricate floral shape and gave it a lace-like structure, then deepened the relief to highlight the ornament. According to Islamic tradition, the earrings are richly decorated with flowers, leaves or finely intertwined vines. To emphasize the play of light and shadow, the symmetrical earrings were additionally oxidized in the ORSKA workshop, and the brass settings were decorated with a sea blue stone. The studs and clasps were made of silver.
The earrings look like mashrabiya, or openwork covers for windows and balconies. This distinctive architectural element in Muslim countries helped cool the hot air while providing a shield for women, who, while remaining invisible, could follow the life going on in the street. Today, mashrabiya are used mainly as a decorative element, but they can also be found in mosques, where they separate the prayer section meant for women from the male gaze. When creating the earrings in the Morocco collection, ORSKA symbolically moved them from the realm of concealment into the realm of interest, turning elements that cover into a form that attracts attention. In this way, she made them artistically visible.
How to style jewelry from the Morocco collection
Morocco teaches that drawing from other cultures is enriching. The eclecticism of this African country encourages experimentation with its design and bold juxtaposition of different elements. Moroccan earrings with blue stones will look most striking when accompanied by airy, colorful fabrics. However, they will also be a great addition to thick sweaters or warm scarves. They will create an interesting, eye-catching duo with the long necklace from the Morocco collection. They will also stylishly match with a bracelet, worn symmetrically on both wrists.
