Sakura in full bloom - cherry blossom jewelry from the Plantis collection
The inspiration for the new botanical designs added to the Plantis collection comes from the Japanese concept of mono no aware, which expresses deep emotion in the face of life’s fleeting nature. It encourages us to see more, feel more intensely, and pause to appreciate what will soon be gone. The blooming of ornamental cherry trees, called sakura, perfectly illustrates the inevitability of time passing. Cascades of soft, pink flowers captivate only for a few days before the petals fall, leaving a tender void. Necklaces, brooches, earrings, and pins with blooming cherry blossoms capture the moment suspended between bloom and falling petals. The durability of metal and the fleeting nature of inspiration form a contrasting combination that encourages noticing the beauty of spring awakening. Wearing Plantis means carrying two truths at once: durability and fragility, eternity and the moment.
Asymmetrical cherry blossom branch earrings
Each gold-plated brass branch features cherry blossoms of varying sizes. The flowers are formed from alpaca, a metal with a cool, silvery sheen, which paired with the gold-plated branch creates a classic combination. The petals are twisted with tiny jewelry screws, much like origami, giving them a geometric, precise, and distinctive character rather than a soft, romantic look. The stamens are made of gold-plated brass, adding lightness and brilliance, and each flower center holds a sparkling synthetic crystal. The earrings are asymmetrical, reflecting the natural, irregular arrangement of branches and flowers, which never bloom identically. They are handmade in our workshop and fasten with comfortable silver studs. One earring features a decorative dangling chain with a small gold-plated silver bead, which can be removed to wear the earring alone or attached to another earring.
The goddess who makes the flowers bloom
Behind the beauty of cherry blossoms in Japanese mythology stands Konohanasakuya-hime, the divine princess whose name literally means “she who makes the flowers bloom on the trees.” According to legend, her father, the mountain god Oyama-tsumi, intended to marry off both his daughters: the elder Iwa-naga-hime, symbolizing eternity and the durability of rocks, and the younger, stunning Konohana. The suitor rejected the elder, choosing only beauty. The father then warned that by rejecting durability, humanity is destined for lives as fleeting as cherry blossoms—intense, moving, but short-lived. This legend persists in Japanese culture as a reminder that beauty and impermanence are inseparably linked, and it is precisely this transience that gives life its depth. The silvery cherry blossom branch earrings carry the echo of this story, serving as a reminder that what passes is worthy of mindfulness and tender attention every day.
