The sky is not the limit

In Nepal, the blue sky, clouds, and wind become a symbol of crossing boundaries - geographical, creative, and interpersonal. They remind us that every new path begins where the familiar ends. Nepal was the first step. The first workshop outside of Poland and the first experience of creating together with artisans raised in a completely different tradition. It was there that the dream of creating across borders began to take shape. Returning to the same place after many years is a return to the source of history and to the people who made that first step the beginning of something greater.

Graphite earrings with plant ornaments from the Nepal collection

The graphite earrings are captivating with the rich ornamentation covering the entire metal surface. Nepalese masters extracted from alpaca an ornament full of winding vines and plant plumes, symbols of growth, development, and the bond between humanity and nature. The repoussé components in the ORSKKA workshop took the form of earrings. The jewelers also added silver studs and labradorites, which shimmer subtly with every movement. Its dark surface evokes the rocks of the Himalayas, and the glints within it evoke the light above the clouds. The alpaca elements were silver-plated and then oxidized. This process gave them a deep, graphite color that highlights the richness of the ornaments.

Nepalese repoussé technique - what is it?

The rhythm of jewelry workshops in the Kathmandu Valley has been defined for centuries by the steady clatter of hammers. It is there that Newari craftsmen perfect the art of repoussé, a technique for shaping thin sheet metal from the reverse side. Strike after strike, they reveal convex ornaments and expressive textures in the metal. Once the design takes shape, the craftsman refines it from the front: deepening the lines, refining the contours, and using steel punches and chisels, giving it its final character. These traditional, hand-hammered ornaments became the heart of the Nepal collection. The repoussé components, crafted over long hours in local workshops, were then brought to the ORSKA studio near Poznań. Here, jewelers fashioned them into necklaces, bracelets, rings, and brooches.
