Nepal jewelry collection - millimeter-stamped ornament by the millimeter
The heart of the Nepal jewelry collection is repoussé, a traditional metal decorating technique perfected for centuries by Newari artisans from the Kathmandu Valley. Repoussé begins with a thin sheet of metal. The craftsman works from the underside, striking contoured points with a hammer. Each strike shifts the sheet by a fraction of a millimeter, until a convex relief gradually emerges on the other side. Then the piece is turned over and chiseled from the front: lines are deepened, contours are accentuated, and the finest details are meticulously extracted. Creating a single ornament requires hundreds, sometimes thousands, of strikes and many hours of focused work. In the Nepal collection, hand-repouséd vines, lotus leaves, and petals cover earrings, necklaces, wide bracelets, rings, signet rings, and brooches. The reliefs are complemented by natural labradorite and raw Himalayan crystals. This centuries-old technique from the Kathmandu Valley is given a contemporary twist in ORSKA jewelry.
Necklace with repoussé pendants from the Nepal collection
Three repoussé metal elements and a small, round labradorite pendant are asymmetrically arranged on a short string of small, faceted labradorites. On the left is a triangular element with gently rounded edges, decorated with a plant plume. On the right is an elongated leaf-like relief, tapering towards both ends. The widest, irregular element is located at the bottom of the necklace and is covered with spiraling vines. The composition is completed by a small, smoothly cut labradorite in a round setting, suspended nearby. The metal elements are made of alpaca, which is coated with a layer of silver and then oxidized. The resulting graphite shade highlights the depth of the embossed ornaments. An extension cord with a pendant featuring the ORSKA logo allows you to adjust the necklace's length.
Labradorite, a stone of perspective
Labradorite fascinates because it never reveals its full beauty at once. At first glance, it appears gray, graphite, and almost inconspicuous, but a simple movement of the hand or a change in the angle of light is enough for its surface to sparkle with shades of blue, green, and gold. This optical phenomenon, called labradorization, makes each stone appear differently depending on the perspective. According to one legend, labradorite's luminous reflections are fragments of the aurora borealis trapped within the rock. In the symbolism of stones, it is associated with intuition, inner transformation, and the courage needed to begin a new chapter. In the Nepal collection, it has become a stone of perspective, reminding us that even a familiar situation can reveal new possibilities when viewed from a different angle. Paired with the rich texture of repoussé metal, it brings light, color, and movement to the jewelry, allowing each design to evolve with the wearer.
Cascading Necklace Combinations from the Nepal Collection
The Nepal collection includes necklaces of various lengths, shapes, and finishes, making them easy to layer. Start with a short model with several pendants, worn close to the neck. Below, layer a string of labradorites with a round or triangular ornament, and for a special occasion, complete the ensemble with a longer necklace with a large, round pendant. Feel free to combine metal colors as well: a gold-plated element placed higher up will create a modern contrast with a graphite, oxidized medallion. The coherence of the entire composition is ensured by repeated plant reliefs and labradorites.
