Between heaven and earth
Above the clouds there are no beaten paths. There are only those we dare to mark. This invitation not to repeat others' answers, but to seek her own—to experiment, to wander, and to change perspective—accompanied Anna Orska when she returned to Kathmandu after 10 years. The new collection was created between the designer's imagination and the experience of Nepalese artisans. The hand-repoussed metal bears the marks of thousands of hammer blows, which, millimeter by millimeter, over many hours, shape the traditional ornament. The collection is complemented by unique Himalayan crystal necklaces, which evoke a mountain horizon: their facets resemble rocky peaks, and their inclusions resemble clouds captured in stone. Translucent as mountain air, they symbolize the clarity of mind found where altitude restores things to their proper proportions.
Long asymmetric earrings from the Nepal collection
The asymmetric earrings are made of repoussé alpaca elements, silver-plated and then oxidized. This process gives them a distinctive, dark hue. Each earring consists of three gradually elongating sections. The smallest is located at the silver stud and connects to a medium-sized element, while the longest relief, covered with floral ornaments, completes the composition. One earring is adorned with a single faceted labradorite, the other with two smoothly cut stones placed on the central element. The seemingly dark and raw labradorites reveal blue, green, and gold reflections with every movement. The entire surface of the earrings is covered with traditional Nepalese motifs: leaves, lotus leaves, and winding vines.
Symbolism of Ornaments and Stones in Jewelry from the Nepal Collection
Some stories are written in words. In Nepal, they are recorded with intricate ornaments. The vines that wind across the surface of the necklaces, bracelets, and earrings from the Nepal collection are known in local tradition as "lata-petra" (leaf and vine), symbolizing the continuity of life, growth, and the uninterrupted cycle of rebirth. The compositions are often complemented by lotus leaves – a symbol of purity and rebirth. The artisan who creates such a pattern does not create it from scratch, but works within the language of symbols developed by their predecessors, preserving its meaning while simultaneously leaving the imprint of their own hand.
It is no accident that at the ORSKA studio, we added labradorite, a stone of perspective change, to these ornaments. Seemingly dark and austere, when moved, it reveals reflections of blue, green, and gold. It never shows them in the same way. Light appears only when the perspective changes – just as a place visited after many years can reveal a completely new story to the traveler.
