Return to the cradle of metalwork - Crafts of the World

After years, Anna Orska returned to Nepal, the place where it all began. And to the people thanks to whom that first step became the beginning of something greater. The return was a test of how experience changes one's perspective. From above, things regain their proper proportions, and a familiar landscape can reveal paths that were previously invisible. The new collection was created to the rhythm of hammer and chisel. In the repoussé metal, each ornament retains the subtle differences resulting from the movement of the craftsman's hand. "There is no path in the sky," says a verse from the Dhammapada that accompanied the designer on this journey. However, there are encounters that point the way. And returns that allow us to understand where the first step led.

Gold-plated ear cuff from the Nepal collection

The ear cuff is made of gold-plated brass. The raised plant ornaments on its surface are the work of local Nepalese metalwork masters. The twisting vines and leaves symbolize the continuity of life, development and growth, the connection between humanity and nature, and the endless cycle of rebirth. The most important symbol of Nepal and Himalayan Buddhism is the lotus. Its leaves – also present on the earring – symbolize a change of perspective, a new look, and an opening to new directions.

Repusating - what is this technique?

Before the components for creating the jewelry reached the ORSKA studio – where they were given the form of necklaces, bracelets, rings and brooches - took hours to create between heaven and earth. In the Kathmandu Valley, the Newars have been perfecting the art of repoussé for centuries: they shape thin sheet metal from the reverse side, strike after strike, extracting convex ornaments and expressive textures from the metal. And once the design takes shape, they refine it from the front: deepening the lines and refining the contours, giving it its final character. These traditionally struck decorations are the heart of the entire collection and have rich symbolic meaning. They are not merely decoration, but a carrier of memory and a language perfected over generations. The artisan does not create an ornament from scratch, but works within the language developed by their predecessors. Each subsequent generation retains the meaning of the ornament while leaving its mark.
