Between Heaven and Earth
The heart of the Nepal collection is repoussé, a traditional metal decorating technique that has been perfected for centuries by Newari craftsmen from the Kathmandu Valley. It starts with a thin sheet of metal. Himalayan masters work from the underside, striking the contoured points with a hammer. Each strike shifts the sheet by a fraction of a millimeter, until a convex relief gradually emerges on the other side. The piece is then turned over and chiseled from the front: lines are deepened, contours are accentuated, and the finest details are meticulously extracted. Creating a single ornament requires hundreds, sometimes thousands, of strikes and many hours of focused work. In the Nepal collection, this centuries-old technique takes on a contemporary form ORSKA jewelry.
Repusé pin with labradorite from the Nepal collection
The pin is made of gold-plated brass. Its surface is entirely covered with repoussé ornaments, which take the form of a plant plume in the upper part of the pina and spiral vines in the lower part. Nepalese craftsmen embellished the surface of the metal element with a convex, precisely stamped relief, giving it depth and expressiveness. From the Kathmandu Valley, the decorated element was transported to the ORSKA studio, where jewelers complemented the upper part of the pina with a cut labradorite.
Labradorite, a stone of perspective
Labradorite fascinates because it never reveals all of its beauty at once. At first glance, it appears gray, graphite, and almost inconspicuous, but a simple movement of the hand or a change in the angle of the light is enough for its surface to sparkle with shades of blue, green, and gold. This optical phenomenon, called labradorization, makes each stone appear different depending on the perspective. According to one legend, labradorite's luminous reflections are fragments of the aurora borealis trapped within the rock. In the symbolism of stones, it is associated with intuition, inner transformation, and the courage needed to begin a new phase. In the Nepal collection, it has become a stone of perspective, reminding us that even a familiar situation can reveal new possibilities when viewed from a different angle. Combined with the rich texture of repoussé metal, it brings light, color, and movement to the jewelry, allowing each design to evolve with the wearer.
