Crafts of the World - Minakari collection inspired by Indian crafts

For years, Anna Orska has traveled around the globe in search of unique, authentic craftsmanship techniques passed down through generations, which we can share with you. This time, she found herself in Rajasthan, India, where, in a small family workshop, she met local masters of the minakari technique, the ancient Persian art of decorating metal with colored enamel. Double-sided jewelry in India has symbolic meaning. The outer part is for the world, the inner part for the owner's heart. This philosophy became the foundation of the collection. The enameled elements for this collection were made in a friendly workshop in India, where each ornament is handcrafted with precision passed down from generation to generation. From there, they were brought to the ORSKA studio, where they were fashioned into decorative necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. From India, Anna Orska brought not only embellishments but also the idea that true beauty doesn't have to be for show. That's why the jewelry from the Minakari collection is reversible, so you decide what to show off and what to keep private.

Gold-plated wedding ring with floral ornaments on a blue background

The entire surface of the silver, gold-plated wedding ring is covered with floral ornaments crafted by Indian masters using the minakari technique. Green floral patterns are painted on the blue background. In Indian culture, blue symbolizes divine protection, inner peace, and spiritual depth—it is associated with the sky and the infinite. Green, on the other hand, represents harmony, fertility, and balance—it is the color of renewal and new beginnings. The plant decorations in the Minakari collection, inspired by Indian and Persian ornamentation, carry rich symbolism. The vines and leaves adorning the ring are a symbol of connection, tradition, and continuity. Their intertwining lines symbolize a lasting connection with nature and the rhythm of life's recurring cycles. In Indian culture, vines also represent relationships that develop over time; mutual support, closeness, and the strength that comes from being together.

The artists from Rajasthan engraved the ring's size inside, according to local sizing, which is not compatible with ours. The correct size is provided on the product label.

What is minakari? - an ancient art of decoration from Rajasthan

Minakari is an ancient Persian technique of decorating metal with colored enamel, cultivated for centuries in India, Iran, and Pakistan. The name comes from the words "mina" (sky) and "kari" (work), which together mean "sky-colored work." Traditionally, minakari was used not only in jewelry but also to decorate architectural elements of the royal palaces in Jaipur, furniture, vessels, boxes, and figurines of deities. The process of creating minakari requires precision and patience. The craftsman first engraves the pattern on the metal surface, creating delicate depressions that outline the ornament's contours. Then, he fills them with mineral glazes made from ground minerals and metal oxides. Minakari is a layered technique; each color is applied separately and requires firing in a kiln. Too low a temperature will not set the glaze, while too high a temperature can destroy the previous layers. Thanks to the layering beneath the surface, subtle color transitions are visible, giving the patterns depth and making the minakari "alive" in the light. Our decorated pieces come from a small, family-owned workshop in Jaipur, Rajasthan, where this technique has been passed down from generation to generation. It is an artistic craft that has survived for centuries thanks to the passion and dedication of local masters.
