Crafts of the World - Minakari collection inspired by Indian crafts
For years, Anna Orska has traveled around the globe in search of unique, authentic, and handed-down craft techniques, which we can share with you. This time, she found herself in Rajasthan, India, where, in a small family workshop, she met local masters of the minakari technique, the ancient Persian art of decorating metal with colored enamel. Double-sided jewelry in India has symbolic meaning. The outer part is for the world, the inner part for the owner's heart. This philosophy became the foundation of the collection. The enameled elements for this collection were made in a friendly workshop in India, where each ornament is handcrafted with precision passed down from generation to generation. From there, they were brought to the ORSKA studio, where they were fashioned into decorative necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. From India, Anna Orska brought not only embellishments but also the idea that true beauty doesn't have to be for show. That's why the jewelry from the Minakari collection is reversible, allowing you to decide what to show off and what to keep private.
Wide silver band with black floral ornaments
The wide band is crafted from light 925 sterling silver, its surface covered with floral ornaments depicting vines and flowers. These were created using the traditional technique of metal decoration using colored enamel—in this case, black, which gives the band an elegant, understated character. The black patterns contrast with the light silver, creating a distinctive yet subtle composition. Black, in Indian symbolism, represents the inscrutable. It is the color of depth, intimacy, and that which is hidden from the world.
The artists from Rajasthan engraved the ring's size inside, according to local sizing, which is not compatible with ours. The correct size is provided on the product label.
How is minakari made?
Minakari is the Persian art of decorating metal with colorful enamel, the name of which refers to the sky and the work of the craftsman's hands. It requires patience, experience, and extraordinary precision – creating a single piece can take up to dozens of hours! The process begins with hand-engraving a pattern on the metal surface. Powdered minerals are then applied to the resulting recesses, which, after firing, transform into a glassy, shimmering enamel. The process is carried out in stages, with each color being cured separately at very high temperatures. Successive layers create an effect of depth and delicate tonal transitions. The colors subtly react to light, changing their character depending on the perspective. It is this multidimensionality that makes minakari enchanting with its lightness and exceptional color intensity. You can learn more about the designer's journey to India and the secrets of this technique in the "Crafts of the World" section.
The Symbolism of Vines and Plant Patterns - a Wedding Ring as a Symbol of Connection
The plant decorations in the Minakari collection, inspired by Indian and Persian ornamentation, carry rich symbolism. The vines and leaves adorning the ring are a symbol of connection, tradition, and continuity. Their intertwining lines symbolize a lasting connection with nature and the rhythm of repeated life cycles. In Indian culture, vines also represent relationships that develop over time; mutual support, closeness, and the strength that comes from being together. Thanks to this symbolism, a wedding ring with a vine motif can become a unique gift for a loved one: mother, sister, friend, or partner, as an expression of the bond that unites you. It also makes a perfect anniversary gift, symbolizing a relationship that matures and strengthens over time.
