Minakari - the Indian art of patience
Minakari is the art of decorating engraved metal with colored enamel. This technique, popular in India, captivated designer Anna Orska during her design trip to Rajasthan. As a result, it was there that the minakari components were created, which we transformed in our studio into silver and gold-plated jewelry, creating a collection based on the idea of choice and personal interpretation. The Minakari collection is double-sided, reversible, and completely up to you. Each piece has been designed with attention to detail: delicate, precise, and intimate in its form. One side remains visible to the world, the other created for the heart and, if you wish, can remain only your secret. You can wear the hidden side close to your skin, like a personal secret. You can also switch sides depending on your mood, the day, or the situation. You can stick with one version for a long time, only to later rediscover the other. You choose what you want to reveal.
Long gold-plated necklace with a double-sided teardrop pendant
This long gold-plated silver necklace on a spiral chain features a magnificent teardrop pendant. It is double-sided, allowing you to freely change the look of the jewelry. On one side, the center of the pendant is blue kundan glass, a traditional Indian glass surrounded by green enamel embellishments and subtle layers of gold. The other side reveals a black and gold floral ornament in the form of an unfolded flower. The floral patterns are handcrafted by local artisans in Rajasthan, where every detail is crafted with extraordinary precision and patience. The necklace features an adjustable clasp and an extension with a small, double-sided pendant decorated with floral motifs, allowing you to adjust its length to suit your style and individual preferences.
How is minakari made?
Minakari is a traditional technique of decorating metal with colored enamel, originating in ancient Persia. Its name combines the words "mina" (sky) and "kari" (work), creating a poetic expression for "sky-colored work." The process of creating minakari is complex and requires precision. First, the metal surface is engraved, creating an intricate pattern. Then, mineral glazes are applied and fired repeatedly in a high-temperature kiln. Each color requires a separate firing stage, making this technique based on the application of successive layers. This creates subtle color transitions beneath the surface of the ornaments, lending depth and exceptional lightness to the decorations. The colors change with the light and viewing angle, giving the impression of being alive. Creating a single piece is very labor-intensive—it can take up to dozens of hours! You can find more about the designer's trip to India and the secrets of minakari in the "Crafts of the World" section.
