Handmade jewelry with jade from th Guatemala collection

JADE. MAYAN TREASURE.

The Guatemala Collection is a journey to the heart of Central America—where the hands of artisans transform stone into talismans and threads into stories. Jade, once a sacred stone of the Mayans, now lies at the heart of minimalist jewelry. It is accompanied by colorful bracelets made from hand-woven fabrics by K'iche' women and kimonos sewn from materials from the city of Chichicastenango. Each piece in this collection is a dialogue between tradition and modernity. It is a story of continuity and transformation—how ancient symbols can live on in new forms and how craftsmanship becomes a universal language. It represents respect for history and the courage to continue writing it.

LOS COLORES DE GUATEMALA

ORSKA's latest journey takes us to Guatemala, where the past constantly meets the present, and ancestral traditions still live on in everyday life. A country pulsating with energy and intense colors captivated Anna Orska with its naturally dyed fabric and jadeite, a sacred Mayan stone. In the Guatemala collection, we've combined these two worlds – the spirituality of stone and the memory of fabric. Artifacts created during the journey carry stories rooted in culture, yet open to a new journey, with you as the protagonist. This collection is about continuity and transformation – about how ancient symbols can live on in new forms and how craftsmanship becomes a universal language. It represents respect for history and the courage to continue writing it.

JADE JEWELRY

Jade most often occurs in shades of green – from a delicate, milky mint to a vibrant emerald green, known as imperial jade. However, nature has its surprises: jade can also be white, pink, lavender, bluish, and even black. For the ancient Maya, jade was more than just a stone. It was a gift from the gods, a symbol of life, strength, and eternity. Its color was believed to reflect the energy of nature – the jungle, corn, and water – the sources of life in the Maya world. Jade was used to create ritual masks, amulets, and jewelry worn by kings and priests. The stone was believed to protect against evil spirits and ensure prosperity in the afterlife. It was often placed in the mouths of the deceased – symbolizing the breath of life, which would guide the soul to eternity. In Guatemala, the cradle of Maya civilization, jade remains a living symbol of identity and tradition to this day. Each piece of this stone carries an echo of ancient magic and a profound respect for nature. This is why it is the star of the collection created in this country. We have dressed the stones, in the form of pyramids, cones, and round cabochons, in silver or gold-plated modern forms, crafted in our workshop. In minimalist necklaces, long earrings, and rings with a magnificent stone, jadeite retains its essence but gains a new context.

WOVEN JEWELRY

Handwoven and naturally dyed textiles are an integral part of Guatemalan culture. They are worn as an expression of pride in belonging to the Mayan people, so the colors often reference their traditions and symbolism. Red represents the east, the beginning; black represents the west, associated with the end of the day and rest. White represents the north, a place of spirituality, wisdom, and the resting place of ancestors. Yellow represents the south, symbolizing fertility and harvest. Each region in Guatemala has its own unique version of the costume, made from fabric whose colors and patterns constitute a unique "language" that speaks to the origins and identity of the wearer. This language captures the stories of ancestors, local traditions, and references to everyday life.

In the Guatemala collection, the fabric has two facets. The first can be found in the limited-edition bracelets. They are made from authentic belts handwoven in the mountainous regions of Guatemala, where local artisans still cultivate traditional techniques passed down through generations. The threads are dyed using centuries-old methods—using herbs and insects—and then woven on traditional looms. Each belt is the result of patient, handcrafted work that respects nature and cultural heritage. This fabric was once an important element of Mayan attire. Belts were used to wrap women's waists to hold their huipil—a traditional blouse—and skirt. Their colors and patterns revealed the marital status, social standing, and even the community affiliation of the wearer. The motifs adorning the belts also had symbolic and ritual meaning—they represented the four cardinal directions, nature, ancestral spirits, or cosmic motifs. Sometimes they also served as hair ornaments. The bracelets made from these belts are unique and limited—each differing in detail and color, coming from a different piece of the original fabric.

KIMONOS IN THE COLORS OF GUATEMALA

The Guatemala collection also marks the brand's first appearance of kimonos. The limited line is made from fabrics from the city of Chichicastenango, where fabric is not just a material—it is a language. It is a story that women weave wordlessly—through thread, weave, and pattern. Each color is a fragment of memory. When intense colors permeate the serene form of the kimono, a new story emerges. Ascetic lines frame a kaleidoscope of Guatemalan colors, and everyday life transforms into ceremony. The ORSKA kimono is a manifesto that fashion can be memory, and color a narrative of tradition and feminine strength.

For everyday wear, minimalist styles pair beautifully with jeans or a simple dress, adding a touch of lightness and nonchalance. In winter, a kimono effectively replaces a warm sweater, and in spring and autumn, it works as a stylish outerwear. It's the true quintessence of dopamine color – bringing energy and Central American joy even in the driest months. For those who like to go against the grain, bold designs in contrasting shades of fuchsia, yellow, and purple have been created. This is a nod to freedom and a colorful defiance of monotony. Simply add an original pin from the Guatemala collection or a striking jade necklace to the kimono to further attract attention – and compliments.
